Solid hardwood is still great on main floors with stable humidity, but we usually recommend engineered for whole-home installs.

Look for a wear layer of 3 mm or more if you want the option to refinish later. Thinner wear layers (1.2 to 2 mm) are fine for a single lifetime of use but cannot be sanded down.
