Frequently asked questions

Is laminate waterproof?

Most modern laminate is water-resistant and will handle spills if cleaned up quickly. A growing number of products are fully waterproof and rated for bathrooms and laundry rooms. Check the line description or ask us at the showroom.

How thick of laminate should I buy?

For residential use, 8 mm is the entry point and 10 to 12 mm gives you a sturdier, quieter floor. Commercial spaces should stick to 12 mm with a robust AC rating.

Does laminate need an underlay?

Yes. Many laminate planks ship with attached underlay, but if not you will need to lay a foam or cork underlay first. It cushions the floor, dampens sound, and is often required by the warranty.

Will laminate work over my concrete basement slab?

Yes, as long as you put down a vapour barrier and the right underlay. Our installers handle this regularly in Edmonton basements.
